The latest chapter in the story of Finnish trombone quartets is the Helsinki Trombone Quartet, founded in 2020, whose members (Max Silfverberg, Kasperi Sarikoski, Nadja Hanhilahti and Mikko Marttila) possess special expertise in both classical and rhythm music. The quartet performs a wide range of chamber music, from romantic era classics to more experimental works.
At Forum Box, the quartet will present, among other pieces, Eetu Ranta-Aho‘s composition Recordare – Danna written for the HTQ, as well as Sampo Kasurinen’s commissioned piece Glide. Both will be premiered in Helsinki.
Recordare – Danna is composed for trombone quartet and tape, and it is dedicated to the memory of Danna Nelson. Danna was an American bass trombonist who studied at the Sibelius Academy and tragically passed away from a rare form of cancer at the age of 26 in 2022. In addition to the quartet’s live performance, the piece features a recording of Danna playing.
Glide is inspired by the movements of birds. The word refers to gliding or sliding. The theme is also linked to the trombone slide, which Kasurinen creatively uses alongside experimental playing techniques.
Concert starts 7 pm. Tickets 21/23€ from Lippu.fi.
