Maximilian Latva and Katri Kainulainen started their collaboration in 2014. The performance art duo Kainulainen & Latva has performed over 80 shows across Europe.
In Finland, the duo has performed at Mad House, Kiasma Theatre, Palsa Museum and galleries such as Huuto, Third Space, Mältinranta and Forum Box. Recent international venues include Centre d’art hybride SOMA in Marseille, France, Pohjolan talo in Reykjavik, North Atlantic House in Copenhagen, Kaunas Artists’ House in Lithuania, Riga Performance Festival and Nuuk Art Museum in Greenland.
Kainulainen and Latva are a couple in both art and private life. Their performances are physical, strongly visual expressions, the themes of which stem from traumas, fantasies and the relationship between the two artists. Elements characteristic of the duo include costumes and objects made from textiles and recycled materials, as well as a soundscape that touches on experimental music produced during the performance.
