Four Flutes, Four Centuries

In his solo concert, traverso player Ilkka Eronen will play music from four centuries. The program includes music originally composed for the flute as well as instrumentations and arrangements. In the concert, Eronen will play instruments from the traverso family of the Renaissance and Baroque periods, including the rarely heard flûte d’amour.

Ilkka Eronen is a traverso player originally from Lieksa, currently living in Helsinki. He graduated with a Master of Music degree from the Department of Early Music at the Sibelius Academy in 2023. In addition, he has studied traverso at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague and flute at the Tampere Conservatory.

Ilkka Eronen regularly performs with various early music ensembles, such as the Finnish Baroque Orchestra, the Helsinki Baroque Orchestra, Ensemble Nylandia and the Pirkanmaan Barokki, playing historical flutes from the Renaissance to the early Romantic period. Ilkka Eronen is a member of the four-piece Æstus ensemble. In addition, Eronen plays in the Intra vires Renaissance flute ensemble.
