Antero Kahila discusses his research project Discovering Caravaggio’s Colours, which took place from 2003 to 2008. In this project, he made use of archival information, existing black-and-white photographic material, and consultations with international Caravaggio specialists to repaint Caravaggio’s first version of the theme Saint Matthew and the Angel. The original work (1602) was destroyed during the bombing of Berlin in 1945. The reconstruction was carried out in the original size, using oil paints, while emulating Caravaggio’s techniques. The lecture is in Finnish.
