Forum Box is an artist-run, non-profit contemporary art gallery located at Ruoholahdenranta in Helsinki.
Maintained by a cooperative founded in 1996 at the initiative of sculptor Kain Tapper, the gallery gives art the freedom to exist on its own terms. The austere and minimalist space invites an encounter between art and the viewer.
In 2026, works by several Forum Box member artists will be on view at St. George Bakery (Yrjönkatu 13, Helsinki) in four different series — an open invitation to join us in experiencing art together.
The 2026 series opens with exhibition kutsu (“invitation”) by artists Ilari Hautamäki, Eeva Peura, Satu Rautiainen, and Fanny Tavastila.
The invitation does not tell you who you are—it asks you to become it.

Fanny Tavastila is a painter (b. 1977), who lives and works in Helsinki. Tavastila’s work draws upon a nuanced spectrum of emotions. She builds her paintings slowly, layer upon layer: they are an intuitive and multifaceted examination of the relationship between the visible and the hidden, the everyday and elegiac, the figurative and abstract. With an innate and lyrical sense of colour, rhythm, texture and composition, her paintings capture the essence of that which is not easily expressed in words.
Tavastila works mainly in oil on canvas, with different printing techniques and site specific installations. Last year the artist completed a large scale international collaboratory project with Newil & Bau and Steven Hall Architects including 120 works for the newly inaugurated building Meander in Helsinki.
Her works can also be found in collections of Wihuri, Pro Artibus, Helsinki University Hospital and the Nordic Investment Bank as well as in numerous private collections in Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Austria, Switzerland, Spain, Italy, France, Benin, Japan, and the USA.
In addition to her own creative practice, Tavastila has created and curated different exhibition programs and is currently curating the Runo Biannual Exhibitions at Runo Hotel Porvoo. The hotel recently received a Michelin Key as the first and only hotel in Finland.
