CONSTRUCTIONS

Constructor: Pia Sirén
Time: 5.1.2018 — 28.1.2018
Location: Forum Box, Ruoholahdenranta 3a, 00180 Helsinki, FI

Forum Box- gallery will undergo a renovation the size of approx. 300m2. The constructor is the artist Pia Sirén (MFA). A comprehensive nature-experience will be built in the space. The space is open from the 5th of January, 2018.

Information:
There will be artificial nature and landscape built in the space. The nature is inspired by austere nationalparklandscapes: forest, rocks, waterfalls, mountains. Paths and bridges will guide the visitors.

The construction works will be realised with temporary means. No permanent changes are made to the space. The nature is built from scaffolding, lightweight tarpaulins, plastics, and temporary floor structures. The renovations focus on how the space is experienced, instead of the physical structures of the gallery.

The construction works include special traits. There is no typical plan for the construction site. The builder is a visual artist, not an architect or an engineer. The starting point for the construction work is the space in itself. The construction is a creative process and it is largely based on mental images and imagination. The use of building materials also changes. The tarpaulins do not protect against weather but instead act as a spruce forest. There are security structures such as railings, signs and bridges. These structures guide you to move safely, and also to see the landscape in the best way.

Aim:
The purpose of the construction work is to create an experience of wast nature within the confined urban space. Moving in the space allows you to remember personal landscape experiences. Nature and forest signify different things for different people. The temporary landscape can be experienced until the 28th of January 2018, after which it is dismantled.
