Ewa Górzna & Katarzyna Miron:
Surround

Surround is a short film reflecting on the relationship between human and nature and our coexistence with other species.

It is an artistic attempt to challenge the typically human oriented relationship between a man and a wild animal by constructing an animal-focused story-telling and emphasizing animal presence and viewpoint. Nature and wild animals are the main characters of the work while humans are suggested indirectly, only through the sound layer.

The work combines nature documentary footage with expanded narrative soundscape where various sonic stories intertwine and resonate revealing the off-screen events happening around the non-human protagonists.

The project continues and develops the ideas from our previous collaborative video works: Encounter and From a distance.

Ewa Górzna and Katarzyna Miron both have a Master of Fine Arts degree from Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, Poland and the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki. They work mainly in the field of moving image. Their videos and video installations have been shown at various solo and group exhibitions in Finland and abroad and screened on numerous international film and video festivals. Both artists currently live and work in Helsinki. They have previously collaborated on several art projects.
