Introducing: Pauliina Turakka Purhonen

𝐏𝐚𝐮𝐥𝐢𝐢𝐧𝐚 𝐓𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐤𝐤𝐚 𝐏𝐮𝐫𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐧 joined Forum Box in 2016, quite late as she says, but just in the right moment for herself. In younger days she felt the most protected working by herself: “I was quite shy when I was young and had this kind of angst of groups. But then, when you get older and work a lot by yourself, it seems to be nice to be with other artists as well, so it’s not so self- and work-protected. You want to share things more.” Nowadays she is not only part of the cooperative Forum Box, but also Huuto gallery. She has been a board- and deputy board member of the Box several times and dedicated a lot of time to it. Being so involved in the social structures of arts also gave her a stronger connection to the independent art world, not only the commercial one.

𝐏𝐚𝐮𝐥𝐢𝐢𝐧𝐚 𝐓𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐤𝐤𝐚 𝐏𝐮𝐫𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐧 graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts 2003 and is particularly known for her detailed textile sculptures that are hand sewn and embroidered. The works are often people and objects in the close environment, such as friends and family and sometimes the artist herself. It is possible to recognize these people in some of her works. Next to the sculptures she also does painting and ceramics. Her works are part of important Finnish collections, such as HAM, EMMA and Kiasma.
