Introducing: Arto Korhonen

“In artist-driven galleries you see new things being born”, 𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐨 𝐊𝐨𝐫𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐧 (1963-2023) says. The visual artist has a long history in Forum Box: for several years he was a board member and therefore took part in decision-making and selection of the upcoming exhibitions. He sees Forum Box as a great place for independent art, as it “provides a wider range of opportunities for artistic experimentation with different content compared to commercial galleries.” Nowadays he has stepped back from the responsible positions a bit: “Sometimes I am comfortable with myself and my own processes in the studio. Sometimes I need to open up to the outside world and sniff out new winds.”

𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐨 𝐊𝐨𝐫𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐧 likes to work slowly and sometimes meditatively with watercolor painting. He tries to expand his understanding of what he can express using watercolor as a medium. Environmental and identity issues and time phenomena are investigative themes of his work. At the moment he is also interested in textile works such as sewing and dressmaking as part of the expression of identity, and also as a big industry and a big consumer product.
